There are holes in the bottom just in case when you open your post box in a morning and its raining and rain gets into the top of your post box it will drain away and doesn't damage your post for that day. When the lid is closed nothing can get into your post box without it being opened. There is a bar inside the post box so when you open it all your post doesn't fall out.
